Pet Sitting Questions

How many visits a day do I need for my pets?

Ultimately it is up to you to decide how many visits per day are needed.  Wunderbar can help you decide how many are ideal.  The most common number is three visits per day, for customers who are out of town. While at work, one or two visits a day may be perfect. Dogs that have ready access to the outdoors via pet door can have two or even one per day, depending upon feeding routine. Crated animals require a minimum of three sits per day. Cats and other, more self-sufficient animals may be seen once per day or more often for companionship.

Can you administer medications?

Yes at no charge.

How many pets are included in your base prices?

Our base price includes a maximum of two animals, with a fee per additional animal.  Travel fee is determined by how many minutes your location is from central New Braunfels. Medication is administered is at no additional charge.

What makes your service better than an independent pet sitter?

I can hire my neighbor kid/co-worker/cousin for half that price.

Most independent pet sitters do not offer the reliability, coverage or security you get when hiring a professional pet sitting company. When you hire Wunderbar, you get  a team of experienced, professional, bonded and background checked sitters, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you, your pet, and your home are protected by our property coverage. The first pet sitting client we ever had is still a happy customer!

Will my dog see the same sitter every visit?

Part of having a team of professionals means that while your pet may often see one sitter most of the time, all of our sitters will be familiar with your pet, ensuring the highest level of service and coverage possible.  Once the free initial consultation has been done, and the sits have commenced, the primary sitter trains other sitters to perform the visit as well by bringing them to a full visit (at no extra charge to you) meeting your pet and going over the specific needs for you and your pet; the same details we covered at your consultation.

How do I get Wunderbar to come visit my pets?

The first thing you need to do is complete our new client form. If you are interested in pet sitting, let us know your travel dates and when you will need visits. For daily dog walk clients, please indicate what days of the week and time you would like your dog walker to walk your dog. Once we receive your email we will schedule a free Customer Consultation at your home to meet you and your pets. We will return all calls and emails within 48 hours, Monday – Saturday. You will also need to create an online client profile.

What is a Pet Sitter?

A Pet Sitter is a pet care professional that you hire to come to your home and take care of your pets. Wunderbar will only hire independent contractors (ICs) that meet the exacting criteria set by us.  Our team of sitters must pass a background check and be familiar with pet first aid techniques, and be covered under our insurance and bonding. We are very picky about who gets to care for your pets.

What pets do you care for?

We care for all domestic pets, including dogs, cats, birds, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, and reptiles. We’ve also been honored to provide visits to farms and ranches in the area.

Do you board pets?

We are not a boarding facility. We are an in-home professional pet sitting company, which means we take care of your pets in the comfort of your own home. Our office is located in central New Braunfels, Texas. All our sitters live in New Braunfels as well, meaning help is truly just a phone call (or text, or email . . .) away.

How do you access my house?

At the consultation before beginning service, you provide us with two sets of keys to your home, which we label by pet name, and have no identifiable info linking it to your residence.  Keys are kept in our secure office, and checked out as needed to our team members.  In addition, we ask that you provide any gate or garage codes in advance of your first visit.

Dog Walking Questions

What is the importance of mid-day dog walks?

A well-exercised dog is a happy dog and is therefore less likely to become destructive when bored or anxious. Also, providing a stimulating break during the day can help alleviate separation anxiety and provide a much needed potty break. If you are gone most of the day that means your pet is home all alone. A mid-day walk provides that much needed attention and interaction when you are away.

My dog doesn't walk well on a leash. Can you leash train him?

We are not certified trainers, but through years of walking dogs and working with puppies, we’ve found that positive reinforcement is the best way to teach a dog to walk well on leash. A consistent schedule of three or more walks per week is the best way to help your dog learn to walk properly.

Do you do walks with multiple dogs?

If you have multiple dogs, we will walk them together, but will not walk your dogs with anyone else’s dogs.  Our attention is focused on one client at a time.

What do you do if it's raining?

Much like the postal service, rain or shine, sleet or snow, we’ll be there. We will not walk if there is, hail or lightning nearby, but we will definitely give your dog the quality interaction they deserve during our scheduled time together. We don’t want to put your dog or our walkers at risk.

Company Questions

Are you insured?

Yes, we are insured and bonded through Pet Sitters Associates, LLC. During our initial consultation, we will provide proof of our policies.

Do you accommodate last minute reservations?

We strive to meet our established clients’ needs when they need us and try to schedule sitters for last minute bookings, although we cannot guarantee it.  Last-minute booking may simply not be possible due to a full schedule. During summer and holiday times, our calendar fills up quickly and we may not be able to schedule you.  We will do our best fill your needs, or possibly refer you to another established company.

For new clients, our free consultation is required at least a week before your visits begin, so that we can get to know you and your pets and their routines and your pets can get to know us as well.

Do you charge holiday fees?

An additional holiday charge per sit will apply for all visits made on the following: On all national holidays; Good Friday through Easter Sunday; Friday through Monday of a holiday weekend; Wednesday-Sunday of Thanksgiving; Christmas eve through New Year’s Day.

Can I book appointments or make schedule changes directly with my pet sitter?

No. All appointments and schedule changes MUST be made by logging into your client portal or by calling the office number. Additionally, if you do not make reservations through the office, then neither you nor the pet sitter will have the protection of our liability insurance and no guarantee the visit will be scheduled.

How does billing work?

Wunderbar Pet Sitting accepts cash and checks on first visit, or all major credit cards when you schedule online. Payments are due on the first day of service. If we have not received payment at the first service we will automatically charge your card. If a client requests to extend service, they guarantee payment at the same rate for all services at time of requested change.

What is your cancellation policy?

For non-holiday reservations 48-hour notice is required, and visits within this window are non-refundable; all holiday reservations require a 7-day notice of changes or cancellations. Holiday visits must be prepaid, and cancellations are non-refundable.

What if there is an emergency and my pet requires medical attention?

You are able to indicate your preferred vet when you set up your account through our automated system. In the event of pet illness or other medical emergency and specified vet is unavailable, the pet will be taken to closest vet or Emergency Care Hospital.

Can I keep my pet outside?

All pets housed outdoors or with outdoor access must have adequate shelter with access to shade and water. Dogs and cats accessing the outdoors unsupervised must have a collar with a tag, and micro-chipping is highly recommended.
